Tobechukwu Dubem "Tobe" Nwigwe is both a talented actor and an artist. It’s funny how I got introduced to him. First I caught him on the Netflix show “Mo” as Mo’s close friend in the Houston based comedy. Separately, a friend of mine named Karim put me on to him as an artist. It wasn’t until several months later that I made the connection that Tobe the actor was also Tobe the rapper (maybe he should have a more explicit stage name like “Tobe the Actor” or “Tobe the Rapper” idk).

What Stands Out?

Now what made Tobe stand out had nothing to do with Tobe. At approximately 12:50 of the above video, the backup singer Dave drops the funniest line I’ve ever heard sung in a neo-soul song

"Please don’t try me. Because I’ll fight. Don’t let this falsetto fool you ya. YouuuU~~~~ can try Jesus”

When I told you fell off my chair twice, I mean I fell off the chair the first time dying of laughter. And just like Paul fell off the horse, something hit me my head when I heard him just go on those excessive vocal runs. There’s this space between funny and soulful, like you know Dave is deadass when he’s singing that, but it feels all so human.
